About KenyaTax

KenyaTax is a set of free, independent Kenya tax calculators. We explain how each Kenyan tax is worked out and let you try your own figures, so you can understand a payslip, plan a business or price an import before you commit.

What you can do here

  • Employees: work out PAYE, NSSF, SHIF and Housing Levy deductions and your take-home pay.
  • Landlords and property owners: estimate rental income tax and see what you may need to file.
  • Businesses: calculate VAT, turnover tax, corporation tax and the cost of late filing.
  • Importers: estimate the duties and taxes on a vehicle or goods before they arrive.
  • Read and learn: our blog explains each tax in plain English, with links to the matching calculator.

How the calculators work

Each result shows its working line by line, so you can see where every figure comes from. The rates and thresholds behind the calculators are kept in one place, show the date they were last checked against the published source, and are updated when the law changes. Nothing you type is stored unless you choose to: calculations happen as you use the page and your figures are not saved or logged. If you create an optional account you can save results, and delete them whenever you like.

Independent and not affiliated

KenyaTax is an independent website. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the Kenya Revenue Authority, the Government of Kenya or any other government body or government entity. We never ask for a KRA PIN, an iTax password or an ID number. Where we link to the official KRA iTax portal, it is an ordinary link to kra.go.ke, which opens in a new tab.

Estimates, not advice

Results are estimates for information only and are not tax, legal or financial advice. Tax rules change and individual circumstances differ, so confirm important figures with the relevant authority or a registered tax agent before you file or pay. If you spot a mistake, please contact us.

Where to start

New here? Pick the tool that matches your situation. Employees can check a payslip with the PAYE calculator and the net to gross salary calculator. Landlords can work out tax with the rental income tax calculator. Businesses can use the VAT calculator and the turnover tax calculator, and importers can estimate costs with the import duty calculator.

When you want the reasoning behind a figure, read the guides on the blog. To keep your records in order, the Excel templates cover payroll, VAT, cash flow and more, and the site map lists everything in one place. If you spot a mistake or have a question, contact us.
