Terms of Use

Welcome to KenyaTax (kenyatax.com). These Terms of Use govern your use of our website, calculators, guides, blog, newsletter and optional user accounts. By using the site you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use it.

About the service

KenyaTax provides free tools and articles that help you estimate and understand taxes and payroll deductions in Kenya, for example PAYE, NSSF, SHIF, the Housing Levy, VAT, rental income tax and import duties. We are an independent website. We are not affiliated with, endorsed by or connected to the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), the Government of Kenya or any other government body.

Estimates only, not advice

The calculators produce estimates based on the rates, thresholds and rules we have recorded and the figures you enter. They are provided for general information and education. They are not tax, legal, accounting, financial or investment advice, and they do not replace the advice of a qualified professional who knows your circumstances. Your actual tax, payroll deduction or duty may differ, for example because of reliefs, exemptions, special rules, rounding, timing or a change in the law. Always confirm important figures with the Kenya Revenue Authority, your employer, a registered tax agent or a qualified adviser before filing a return, paying tax or making a financial decision.

Accuracy of rates and content

We work to keep rates and explanations current and show the date the rates behind each calculator were last checked. Tax law changes often, however, and we cannot guarantee that every figure is complete, current or free from error. The Finance Act, KRA public notices and other official sources are the authority. If you find something that looks wrong, please tell us at [email protected] so we can look into it.

Who may use the site

You must be at least 18 years old, or have the permission of a parent or guardian, to create an account. You are responsible for the accuracy of the information you give us and for using the site lawfully.

Your account (optional)

You can use all calculators without an account. If you create one:

  • keep your password confidential and tell us promptly if you think someone else has accessed your account;
  • you are responsible for activity under your account;
  • you can delete saved calculations, or your whole account, at any time from your account settings;
  • we may suspend or close accounts that break these terms or put the site or other users at risk.

Saved calculations are snapshots of the figures and rates at the time you saved them. They do not update automatically when rates change.

Acceptable use

You agree not to:

  • use the site in a way that breaks any law or the rights of others;
  • try to gain unauthorised access to the site, other accounts or our systems, or probe, scan or test their security without written permission;
  • overload or disrupt the site, including by automated or excessive requests, scraping at scale or similar activity;
  • introduce viruses or other harmful code;
  • submit false, misleading, abusive or spam content through our forms;
  • enter other people's personal information, such as KRA PINs, passwords or ID numbers, into the site or send it to us;
  • copy the calculators or content for a competing service or present our work as your own.

Intellectual property

The site's design, text, calculators, code, graphics and logo belong to us or our licensors and are protected by copyright and other laws. You may use the calculators and read the content for your own personal or internal business use. You may quote short extracts with a clear link back to KenyaTax. You may not republish, sell or build services on our content without our written permission. "KRA", "iTax" and other third-party names belong to their owners and are used only to describe what our tools relate to.

Newsletter and communications

If you subscribe to our newsletter you agree to receive the emails you chose. You can unsubscribe at any time with the link in every email. Service emails, such as a password reset, are sent only when needed. Our Privacy Policy explains how we handle your data.

Advertising, sponsors and third-party links

The site may show advertising or sponsored content, which we label. We do not control third-party advertisements or the websites we link to, including the official KRA iTax portal, and we are not responsible for their content, availability or practices. A link or advertisement is not an endorsement.

Availability

We aim to keep the site available but do not promise that it will always be uninterrupted, error free or secure. We may change, suspend or discontinue any part of the site, including features and calculators, at any time, and we may update these terms.

Disclaimer of warranties

To the fullest extent permitted by law, the site and everything on it are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of accuracy, completeness, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. See our Disclaimer for more.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, KenyaTax, its owners, contributors and service providers will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for any loss of profit, revenue, data or goodwill, or for any penalty, interest or additional tax you incur, arising from your use of, or inability to use, the site or from reliance on any estimate or content. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, such as liability for fraud. Because the calculators are estimates, you use them and rely on their results at your own risk.

Indemnity

You agree to compensate us for loss or claims arising from your breach of these terms or your unlawful use of the site, to the extent the law allows.

Changes to these terms

We may revise these terms from time to time. The date at the bottom of the page shows the latest revision. Using the site after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya. Any dispute that cannot be settled informally will be subject to the jurisdiction of the courts of Kenya.
